The Anglophone African Catholic Community Brussels (AACCB) was born at the Notre Dame Immaculée (NDI) parish, Cureghem, Anderlecht Brussels, Belgium, on March 1, 1998 with a Holy Mass that was celebrated by two priests, the Rev Frs. Sebastian Onah and Clement Onwunata. The main aim of the formation is to engage members in liturgical evangelization, spiritual devotion, social welfare, and Christian awareness, doctrine and education
After sampling the opinions of many Anglo-African Catholics, Rev Fr. Dr. Sebastian Onah had consultations with Rev. Fr. Jan Claes (Former Priest of NDI). In the same vain, Rev. Fr. Dr. Sebastian Onah, collaborated with Rev. Fr. Dr. Clement Onwunata on a street-to-street membership drive around and within the communes such as, Molenbeek and Anderlecht. Towards this end, visits, poster adverts, meetings and discussions in places like cafés, garages, business centres and embassies took place.
Within the first three months of preparation, uncertainties, dispositions, promises and failures, were encountered. Amidst series of contemptuous and derogatory response, a cloud of uncertainty manifested itself when it was observed that only one laity, in the person of Mr. Elias Ngoram, attended the first Eucharistic Celebration of the community held in Marcj 1998. As years went by, however, a humble beginning crystallized into the great success recorded to this date, as a single-member gathering, metamorphosed into a multi cultural community that are composed of groups assisting in the growths and developments of their members within the church.
These groups include, amongst others, Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Catholic Men Organisation (CMO), the Choir, Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Legion of Mary, Catholic Youth Organisation (CYO), The Cadet of Mary, Lay Readers Association, Mass Servants, Church Wardens, AACCB vzw/asbl, and the Church Council.
